Liquid Football (6-2-1) looks to extend its five-game winning streak against Cedars FC (2-4-2) to keep them in the title race with Inter Detroit, who are only two points ahead with three games left in the season.
Liquid Football is coming off a thrilling victory against third-place Thundercats SC. Liquid Football got on the board first with a penalty in the 16th minute. They quickly made it 2-0 a few minutes later when Beni Tanyi shot the ball from 25 yards out into the top corner. The Thundercats pulled one back after the break after a mistake in the back left the attacker in all alone, who slotted it past keeper Esmail Haidan. Moments later, Cyrus Saydee played a through ball to Bosh Tanyi, who made a run and received the ball behind the defense. His shot beat the Thundercats’ keeper, making it 3-1 Liquid Football. In the 63rd minute, a Thundercats attacker was fouled as he crossed it. His teammate was there for the header and scored. The center referee blew his whistle for the foul as the ball went in. He went to talk to the linesman, who confirmed the ball was in before he blew the whistle. 3-2 Liquid Football was the final score. It separated Liquid Football and Thundercats in the standings and got them closer to Inter Detroit.
Cedars’ previous game was against Holland Rovers, who had three games on the opposite side of the state in a row. Cedars beat the Rovers 5-2.
Cedars are a very experienced team. They have players with experience ranging from college, MWPL, UPSL, USL2, NISA, and overseas. Many of whom have played multiple years together.
Despite their record, it will be challenging for Liquid Football as many players from both teams know each other. It is forecasted to rain during the game, perfect weather for a derby.
